Below are commonly asked questions and answers specific to Falcon Middle School Choice applications.

  • IMPORTANT REMINDER for Current 5th or 8th Grade School of Choice Families:
    Current School of Choice (SOC) students who are moving from Elementary to Middle School OR Middle to High School must submit a new School of Choice application. If you do not apply, your student will automatically roll to their designated neighborhood school based on your current address.
  • How do I apply for Choice?
    • Current District 49 Students: Log into your Parent Portal account and click “Forms.” Choose the "D49 2026-27 – School of Choice Request." If you have difficulty accessing your Portal or the form, please contact the Registrar at your student's current school.
    • Non-District 49 Residents: Please select “Enroll Now” on the District 49 website (www.d49.org) or contact the D49 Central Enrollment office at 719-494-8911.
  • When will decisions be made? We anticipate sending out determination letters starting in March 2026, once our staffing and capacity numbers are finalized.
  • How will I be notified? All notifications regarding School of Choice status will be sent via email to the address listed on your application. Please ensure your contact information is up to date and check your spam/junk folders regularly beginning in March.
  • Will I be notified if my student is not accepted? Yes, every application will receive a determination letter. If we cannot offer a seat at this time, you will be notified via email. However, please know that we continue to review staffing and capacity through the summer. If seats open up, we will contact qualifying families based on the order their applications were received.
  • Do I need to submit anything else right now? No. At this stage, your application is complete. If your student is accepted, we will provide instructions on how to complete the official enrollment or transfer process at that time.
  • I have another child already attending FMS. Do I still need to apply? Yes. Every student requesting a variance/choice transfer needs an individual application, even if a sibling currently attends the school.
  • Does School of Choice include transportation? Generally, families accepting a School of Choice placement are responsible for their own transportation to and from school. Please check the District 49 transportation website for specific busing availability or restrictions.
