School Nurse
Nelda Dettwiler
My name is Nelda Dettwiler, and I am the registered nurse for Falcon Middle School and the PEAK Education Center.
Students and staff call me Nurse Nelda. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from CSU Pueblo, and a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Physiology from Fort Hays State University. I have been a registered nurse for 31 years, this being my 15th year as a school nurse.
Prior to school nursing, I worked as a cardiology nurse in Memorial Hospital's cardiac and critical care units, and as clinical nurse manager in a cardiac testing facility. I was the patient educator and special procedures nurse for St. Francis Medical Center for the start up year. In 2009, I entered public education, joining the Academy of Health Sciences team at Falcon High School, where I taught Health II, Health Careers, and co-taught the CNA classes.
School nursing was a calling for me, and I accepted a position in another district, where I worked for eight years prior to coming back to D49.
I have two loveable rescue dogs, Gracie, a yellow lab mix, and Griffyn, a red heeler/Jack Russell mix. They are an energetic and entertaining pair! We enjoy long walks, traveling, swimming, camping, and vegetable gardening. I love being a part of Firebird Nation!
